Book Week

Library_Meerkat.jpg

Well, it is nearly that special time of year for the Library.  Next week is Book Week!  There will be plenty of opportunities for students to join in with this celebration of Australian children’s literature.

There will be a variety of activities highlighting stories that have been nominated for prizes by the Children’s Book Council of Australia for children to participate in at the Library with their classes and during breaks.

The Book Week Character Costume Parade will be held on Wednesday the 21st of August on the school oval from 9.00 a.m.  Helping Hands, our outside school hours care provider, has very generously donated the prizes that will be presented during the costume parade. Thank you so much!

Meerkat Productions will be visiting the school on Thursday August 22nd to present a live performance of two of the books that were included in the CBCA Notables list for this year.  All payments to attend this performance are due on the 21st of August.

During Book Week, the CBCA present an Award for New Illustrator.  This Award aims to recognise and encourage new talent in the field of Australian children's book illustration. This year’s nominees are shown below:

From this category of nominees we thoroughly enjoyed the illustrator’s work in bringing the charming story of “The Singing Seal” to life, as well as the amazing attention to detail shown in the watercolour images depicted in “Australian Birds”.

Book Donations

We would like to say a very big “Thank you” for the donation of a selection of amazing books that were generously given to the school last week by two of our former students and their family.  We are sure that these books will prove to be popular choices with our students.
