Principal's News

Dear Parents and Caregivers

It was a pleasure to be joined by our Member for Pine Rivers, Ms Nikki Boyd MP as our school leaders were officially inducted into their respective roles yesterday.  Our inductees were joined by their parents shortly afterwards for a special morning tea in their honour.  A big thank you is extended to our parents for the wonderful morning tea yesterday.

Our Explicit Improvement Agenda in 2019

Our Explicit Improvement Agenda for 2019 continues to focus on Writing practices and processes, Reading strategies and Numeracy, in particular number facts fluency. Over the past six years our NAPLAN data has shown significant improvements in student performance and we are aiming at making further improvements in 2019. We are also continuing to work hard on improving our A-E data on the school report cards, in particular moving students who are achieving D and E ratings in Mathematics and English to a C rating. This agenda provides a clear focus for our professional development activities for the year, and importantly how we work together to improve learning outcomes for all our students. Our school budget will also place emphasis on these improvement areas and will utilise funds from the ‘Investing for Success’ program to provide human and physical resources to support our improvement endeavours.

When finalised, all our school planning documents will be published on the school website.

Free Dress Day – Friday March 8 – Townsville Flood Appeal

Dayboro State School is pleased to support the Red Cross Appeal for the victims of the Townsville Flood Disaster by holding a free dress day for students on Friday 8 March.

Students are welcome to come in free dress for the cost of a gold coin which will be forwarded to assist the people of Townsville.

School Attendance

I am pleased to advise that Dayboro State School achieved an excellent rate of school attendance in 2018 with a result of 95% across the school for the year. Thankyou to our school community for ensuring that “Everyday Counts at Dayboro, Every Day”.

In 2019 , a target of 96% has been set, however, I am concerned at the current high number of unexplained absences and the number of SMS messages which have been sent throughout the last  two weeks. By law, the school must know where every student is and the reason why they are not in attendance at school on any particular day. The procedure for an absence is to call the school on 3425 6160 stating the child’s name and reason for absence.

I would be pleased to see, that as a school community, we work in partnership to ensure that our important child protection processes are enacted.

Prep Information – 2020

We are already receiving enquiries about our Prep program for 2020. We are pleased to provide information and enrolment information anytime at our school office. However, I am able to advise that our Prep Information and Enrolment Morning will be held on Wednesday 28 August at 9.30am in our School Hall and enrolment packs will be handed out on the day. This will be followed up with Prep interviews for all newly enrolled students from 14-18 October and a Prep Orientation Day on Tuesday 12 November.

If you have a child born between 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2019. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place – please check at http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/catchment/ for further information.

I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2020.

P&C AGM Meeting

The P&C AGM will be held on Monday 11 March at 6.30pm in the school staffroom. This is a wonderful opportunity for our new families to become involved in our great school and be part of the decision making process. All welcome to attend.
