School Captains Update
Amy delivered this speach to Assembly on Monday morning. Well done Amy
Good morning everyone,
Recently the school captains and I were given the privilege of visiting Parliament House on budget week which is one of busiest times of the year for Parliament.
Queensland Parliament House is located in Brisbane City and is a very grand building which was built in 1865.
We were welcomed by Nikki Boyd who gave us an introduction into what Parliament is about. We then moved into the building where we were lead up the grand staircase. Here we met with the first Torres Strait Islander Member of Parliament and had our photo taken with Nikki Boyd along with the leaders from other schools in our Region.
We viewed the Senate room although this is no longer in use. We then headed up to the top of the building where we had lunch with a great view of the river and city and ate from plates rimmed with gold.
After lunch, we headed to the House of Representatives and witnessed the handing out of the Queensland State Budget. The budget lays out the plan where Queensland government money will be spent for the 2020 financial year.
We also had the opportunity to look around the grand building before heading back to Dayboro.
It was a wonderful and unique experience which we all enjoyed.
Thank you
Amy King
