Library and MakerSpace News

We have had a busy start to the new year.  Students have already been visiting with their classes (and at lunch time) to borrow books for reading.  We have had a substantial number of books very generously donated to the library and many of the titles are proving to be very popular with the students.  We would like to say a very big “Thank you” for all of our wonderful new books.

The Library is also proving to be a popular place to visit during lunch breaks.  Students have been very busy creating amazing items in our makerspace.  We have had some fantastic donations of craft materials to this section of the Library.  Our students have wonderful imaginations and they are able to use even the most ordinary items to create marvellous things.  Since the start of term coloured paper, straws, wiggly eyes and paper punches have been in constant demand with the students.

We have also seen an increase in the number of students coming along to play board games and to use Osmo (iPad problem solving games) during the break.  Board games not only provide students with a fun distraction during their break times, but they also foster skills with teamwork, coordination and strategizing.  All students playing board games during their breaks are to be congratulated for taking responsibility for the games they are using and ensuring that their equipment is cleaned up correctly.

Students are reminded that they will need a library bag to provide protection to Library books when borrowing.  For the next few weeks, students who do not have a Library bag have an opportunity to help make a Library bag in the makerspace for their own use.  We have a limited amount of previously donated fabric to use for this purpose, and we would have also had some very welcome donations of pre-sewn Library bags that we have been passing on to students who are keen to borrow and do not have a Library bag available.

We would like to say a very big “Thank you” to all of the people in the Dayboro community who have made these very generous donations to the library.  These donations go a long way in supporting our students. We truly appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs H.
