Book Week
It’s almost here! Book Week is next week and all students are invited to be a part of our celebration activities.
Our Character Costume Parade will be held on Wednesday the 20th of August from 9:15 a.m. on the oval.
Please remember that students in a book themed costume will have their names entered into a lucky draw for each class. One winner will be selected from each class to win a book prize.
We also have two competitions available for students to enter – a colouring in competition and a camper bus design competition. Prizes for upper school and lower school winners for these two competitions will be book vouchers to spend with Book Club. Students can visit the Library for more information and entry forms. Prizes will be presented during Book Week. Entries close this Friday.
Congratulations to the following students who have been drawn from the lucky draw over the last two weeks:
Laylah 5M
Archie 4L
We have Meerkat Productions returning this year to perform a live-action retelling of two of the books that have been nominated to win prizes during Book Week. This year’s performance date is Wednesday the 20th of August. This year’s books are “The Garden of Broken Things” for Prep – Year 3 students in the hall from 1.50 p.m. and “Small Acts” for Year 4 – Year 6 students in the hall from 12.15 p.m. We hope everyone can join us for these events.
Invoices for the $9.25 payment for students to attend these shows have now been sent to families.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge will end on August 22nd. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books. Reading record sheets are available from class teachers and from the Library. Once students have completed their reading requirements they will need to return their reading record sheets to their class teacher so that we can arrange certificates to acknowledge the students who have completed the challenge.
Congratulations to Rush House who are currently leading the interhouse reading competition by one book.
Book Club
Book Club for Term 3 is now open. Brochures for this issue of Book Club will be distributed to students as soon as they arrive and the catalogue can also be viewed online. In this issue you'll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. The books included in this issue span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests with prices starting at just $3.
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school and the books will be delivered to their class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/loop or by using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Alternatively, order forms with payment can be handed in at the school office. All orders placed through Book Club help to earn free reading books for the school library.
Orders are due Thursday the 4th of September.
