Supporting the Engagement of our students
We are working on READING at Dayboro State School! Key Priority 1: To implement a whole school approach to the teaching of reading through implementation of the Australian Curriculum (V9) in English.
Our teachers have been working super hard on developing their explicit routines in teaching word reading. This last fortnight, many of our fabulous early years’ teachers have been observing each other’s practice. This Watching Others Work (WOW) process allows teachers to share best practice and ensures consistency across our Prep-Year 3 reading program. One of our staff really phrased it beautifully….”We never stop learning!”

It is amazing to see the fabulous student results in both reading and also how they are able to represent the letters and sounds in their writing.
School Review
This week we invited Mrs Susan Hughes, Principal of Mount Samson SS to our school to speak with teachers to continue to seek feedback from our teaching staff for the school review. We have used a variety of ways to gather information. This is assisting us to continue towards our next steps forward as a school, seeking feedback from staff, students, parents and community partners.
We have used ACER’s School Improvement Tool to frame our inquiry under the 9 Domains:
Our P&C have also been able to provide us with great feedback towards this School Review over the last term. We have one final parent survey to assist us in gathering your views. Could you please take a couple of minutes to provide feedback using the QR Code or this link?:
Thank you for helping us to understand what we are doing well as a school and to identify our next steps for imporvement.

Staff News
I wanted to let you know of some recent staff news:
- Our School’s Officer, George, has been successful in getting a transfer to a school closer to home. He will commence at Dakabin State School in term 3. It will certainly be sad to say goodbye to George, he’s been such a big part of our school community for the last 9 years. We wish you all the best George as you set off on your next adventure!!!
- Our new Monday and Tuesday Business Manager, Cindy Stenson, has been a lovely addition to our team this term. Cindy has won a fulltime Business Manager job over at Sandgate State High School which she will also commence in term 3. Fortunately, Sandgate SHS and Cindy have been mindful of Dayboro needing a BM in our first week (as Clare is swanning up in Nth Queensland) and have agreed for Cindy to work at Dayboro for the first week back. So, Cindy will leave from week 2.
I know you will make contact to congratulate George and Cindy.
NAIDOC Celebrations
Next week we will celebrate NAIDOC Week at our school. Claire, our Indigenous Ambassador will discuss the significance of NAIDOC with our students at assembly.
