Principal's News

Thank you to our community!!!

What a relief that we avoided any major damage from Cyclone Alfred this weekend. It was wonderful to see the collective action to secure our beautiful school and make plans with the community to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our little ones and big ones.

Thank you to the P&C for your dedication in serving up the lunches through the Tucker box on Wednesday and helping ensure that all the relevant checking and packing up was done before locking up. Appreciation also to our parents for being open with your children about the weather conditions, making it much easier at the school for staff to help keep the calm.

As we head back to school this week, we are cleaning up our site. Thanks to some of our amazing community members Katharine and Andrew, we have managed to cut up many of the large branches (still the oval to go) and clear our defrosted Tucker Box freezer (thanks Debra and Marshall or your swift clean up inside and out!).

We have had community members donating school lunches for families struggling to get supplies.

Please don’t let food be an issue for sending your children back to school. We have you covered. Thanks to our AMAZING community!!!

We have also had a delivery of items from a community member who has been working with the Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Food Bank.  They have donated food parcels to our tuckshop and to Helping Hands to help out.

P&C

GD_AGM.png

We decided to postpone our P&C AGM and monthly meetings until Monday 24 March. Please consider attending this AGM and getting involved this year, even as a committee member. A huge thank you to our 2024 committee who, I am sure that you will agree, lead from the front and have been an amazing support to our parent community and our school administration team and all staff. Please consider joining us for our AGM on Monday 24 March.

Our 2025 Key Priorities!

A Dayboro State School, we have been planning for and working on our two 2025 Key Priorities.

To implement a whole school approach to the teaching of reading through implementation of the Australian Curriculum (V9) in English.

GD_Reading_through_the_Aust_Curriculum.png
  • All staff are engaging in professional learning around the teaching of reading.
  • Our teachers have been collaboratively planning their Reading sessions.

Our school has been chosen to participate in a Reading Collaborative Learning Community with other schools.

To promote positive student behaviour in learning through a whole school approach to student engagement and wellbeing.

  • We have an established Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) team who are revieing our current DSS behaviour processes.
  • We are working with a Regional PBL coach.
  • We have continued to develop our Lunchtime Clubs to engage our students.

2025 School Review

Our Dayboro State School will facilitate a School Led Review in 2025.

All Queensland state schools undergo a review at least once every 4 years, generally undertaken in the year that they are due to update their 4-year strategic plan.

School-led reviews aim to harness the efforts of schools to use cycles of inquiry to review their performance and progress, and collaboratively identify next steps for improvement. This evidence-based approach empowers school leaders, in partnership with their community, to lead aspects of the review process.

A school-led review consists of 2 phases:

  • evaluation conducted by the school
  • validation conducted by School and Region Reviews (SRR).

This fact sheet explains the review evaluation and validation process.

We are wanting to form a team from our school community of staff, parents, community members and students to plan for and enact our school led review. Please contact me via email gdoug7@eq.edu.au if you would like to help us out by being on our planning team.

A Dayboro Learner

GD_Challenged_learner.png

Last week at assembly we celebrated our students being Challenged Learners to promote a growth mindset in our classrooms.  It is wonderful to see how our DSS students are challenged themselves and others.

In the next two weeks, we will be introducing Karly the Kangaroo who is a Collaborator. Being a collaborator is super important for being a successful learner. Our teachers will start doing some work next week, after the introduction at our assembly. It is super helpful for parents to also check in and encourage collaboration at home.

Parent / Teacher Partnerships

GD_Parent_Interview_pic.png

Parent /Teacher partnerships are super important to your child’s success at our school. We understand that you know your child the best and as such can help our teachers to understand their personality and motivations to support your child in their learning journey. A reminder that our Parent Teacher Conferences will be scheduled for the last week of this term. You will be able to book your conference/s through our online booking system SOBs from Monday 17 March. Please use the link: https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/student.php?schoolid=70654. If you would like to speak to one of our specialist teachers or inclusion teacher, you can make a booking by emailing that staff member.

Please be aware of the following organisation for our conferences:

  • Bookings will close on Friday 28 March to allow for teachers to prepare their interview schedule and have your child’s work samples ready to share with you
  • The two late nights for interviews are Wednesday 2 April and Thursday 3 April. These interviews will take place in our School Hall. If children are in attendance (and not involved in the conference), there will be some activities at the back of the hall to engage them with support staff supervision.
  • The interviews NOT scheduled on the afternoons of 2 and 3 April, will take place in your child’s classroom. Please ensure that you keep all children with you on these occasions as we have no child minding available. Children are not permitted to be on the playgrounds before and after school.

We look forward to working together with you to support your child to thrive here at Dayboro State School.

National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy NAPLAN Year 3 and 5 students this term

Thank you for helping to prepare your children for our NAPLAN online assessments. Due to the recent weather event, we have made some changes to our year 3 and 5 online NAPLAN testing schedule.  Some of our classes have not completed all of the practise assessments and so they will do this over the next few days.

Our testing schedule will now commence on Monday 17 March:

I also reattach the information brochure for parents and carers. Parents can access the NAPLAN website www.nap.edu.au/naplan. If you have any questions or concerns about these assessments, please contact your child’s class teacher, Karen Ryan and myself so that we can discuss or clarify details.

Uniforms

Can I please congratulate our families on ensuring that our DSS students are wearing their uniforms  with pride? As we head into cooler months, I wanted to remind you that students need to wear a Dayboro State School jumper or jacket or a plain navy blue jumper clearly marked with their name. We have discussed at assembly many times that club jumpers are not part of our school uniform. If you child needs an appropriate jumper to wear to school, we will loan then one from our office supplies. Club jumpers or non-navy blue jumpers will be asked to be removed.

Thanks for your help with this. We are all part of the Dayboro State School Team!
