Principal's News

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome to the second edition of our new electronic school newsletter. I hope everyone is enjoying the convenience of having our school information delivered directly to your device or home computer. The newsletter is still in its infancy, but as it unfolds our goal is to include more class happenings, regular columns from our specialist teachers, student work samples, and hyperlinks to articles of interest to our parents and community.  Remember to click on the Calendar at the top right of the newsletter to see whats on in our school community.  We are working on a "Whats on" section which will show the current week or two.  But in the meantime everything is in the calendar.

Our Day 8 enrolment for 2019 is 355 students.  Our enrolment is a little lower than this time in 2018 due to a very large cohort of 59 Year 6 students leaving at the end of 2018 and an enrolment of 46 in Prep this year. Once again, we have maintained staffing levels and it has not been necessary to adjust any classes for the beginning of the school year.

Thank you again to our school community for the positive and successful start to the 2019 school year. I look forward to working with our community, teachers and students to progress our improvement agenda in Writing, Reading and Numeracy over the next four terms.

New Chaplain

I would like to introduce Mr Cameron Quirk to our school community as our new School Chaplain. Chappy Cam is an experienced School Chaplain having completed over ten years in the role in several Mackay schools. Chappy Cam will be at our school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and every alternate Monday. We look forward to welcoming Cameron to our school and our wider community.

School Leaders Induction Ceremony

The 2018 school leaders will be inducted at a special assembly next Monday 18 February at 9.00am. Our special guest will be the Member for Pine Rivers, Ms Nikki Boyd MP who will present our new leaders with their badges of office. All welcome to attend.

Before School Procedures and Playgrounds

Students at Dayboro are encouraged to arrive after 8.15am in the morning and are required to assemble in the CSA where supervision is provided until the school bell at 8.40am. This policy ensures that all students are safe and assists if an emergency situation arises at the school.  Students arriving at school after 8.50am are required to attend the school office to obtain a ‘late slip’ for presentation to the class teacher. I would also like to remind parents that as no staff supervision is available, the use of playgrounds before or after school is discouraged and not supported by the school.

Student Council 2019

Congratulations to the following students who have selected by their class peers as class Student Council Representatives for 2019. Our four school captains are automatically members and leaders of the Council.

I look forward to working with our representatives at our meetings. The Student Council representatives will be presented with their badges at the Student Leaders Induction on Monday 18 February.
