Principal's News

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Thank you to our P&C and the team of volunteers who conducted the successful Mothers’ Day stall last Friday. It was wonderful to see our local Kindergarten students as well as all our classes take the opportunity to select something special for Mothers’ Day. I understand that over $1800 was raised which is the result of excellent support from our school community.

Also, thank you to everyone who has already donated to the chocolate drive for Dayboro Day. The Weigh In of chocolate donations will be on Monday 20th May. Members of the P&C will weigh the contributions received from each class throughout the morning session next Monday with the class who has collected the most winning a pizza party.  The chocolates received will be used as prizes for the Dayboro State School Chocolate Wheel at Dayboro Day.

Our P&C will also be fundraising at the Election this Saturday with a Sausage Sizzle outside our school hall.  Many thanks to all the volunteers who are assisting with this on Saturday.

The major project for our P&C for this year is the provision of air conditioning for our school library, something which we are hoping to achieve this year. Your support of our P&C assists in our school reaching this important goal for our students and our community.

School Photos- Catch Up Date

We have been advised that MSP Photography will be present at school again on Monday 28 October to take photos of any students who were absent from school or are new enrolments to the school.  Please note only individual photos will be taken – no group photos are available.

Winter and Flu Season

Winter is almost upon us, bringing cold and influenza season with it. Some of our students (and staff) have already felt the effects of the flu season. Queensland Health’s influenza page, www.qld.gov.au/flu covers the symptoms, how to protect yourself and others from getting sick and discusses appropriate treatments.

Our school will help to prevent the flu from spreading by :

  • Encouraging children, staff and visitors to cover their mouths and noses when they sneeze or cough
  • Making tissues readily available and ensuring used tissues are disposed of immediately
  • Ensuring children and staff wash their hands regularly
  • Cleaning our facilities and resources regularly
  • Encouraging staff and children with flu-like symptoms to stay at home

If your child catches the flu, please seek medical advice and keep them home until they are feeling well again. Any assistance that can be provided by parents in supporting our school in keeping the flu at bay as much as possible would be most appreciated.

Under 8’s Day

Dayboro State School is pleased to participate in Under 8s Week in 2019.

This year, Under Eights Week across Queensland is focussing upon the theme of ‘Celebrating the diversity of languages within the home, culture and community’.

Our school will be celebrating with a fun filled morning of activities for our Prep-2 students and our local kindergarten students on Friday 24 May from 9.00am – 10.45am.

We also look forward to welcoming our local emergency services as well as students from Bray Park State High School who will assist throughout the morning.

Prep Enrolments -2020

We are already receiving enquiries about our Prep program for 2020. We are pleased to provide information and enrolment information anytime at our school office.  However, I am able to advise that our Prep Information and Enrolment Morning will be held on Wednesday 28 August at 9.30am in our School Hall.  This will be followed up with Prep interviews for all newly enrolled students from 14-18 October and a Prep Orientation Day on Tuesday 12 November.

If you have a child born between 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2020. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place.

Please check the following link for more information on Dayboro State School's Enrolment Management Plan.

We have had several enquiries regarding enrolling at Dayboro Prep from outside the catchment area. Families who view Dayboro as their school of choice are very welcome to submit an enrolment application, however the outcome of the application will not be advised until late October when available places are allocated in the order of receipt.

I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2020.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be conducted from today- Tuesday 14 May until Thursday 16 May. NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning through the school curriculum. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the test formats and will provide appropriate support and guidance. If you have any questions about your child’s participation or preparation around NAPLAN, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the school administration.

Friday 17 May is set aside as a ‘catch up day’ for students that may have been absent for all or part of the testing program.

Woolworths Earn and Learn

Once again, our school has signed up to be part of the Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion. In 2017, our school was able to secure over $3000 worth of new

resources for our classrooms.

One Earn and Learn sticker is earned for every $10 of purchases at Woolworths Supermarkets. Please bring your stickers or completed sticker sheets and place them in the collection bin at the school office. Further collection bins for our school  are located at Warner, Petrie and Strathpine Woolworths stores.
