Musical – WE ARE MONSTERS!

DM_Monsters_Musical.png

Did you know we are putting on a Musical – We are Monsters this term? Next week on Monday I will let our students know how to purchase the tickets for the evening shows. Thank you to our P&C for partnering with our Musical staff to offer family dinner options for consumption before the shows. Look out for an email next week to explain the options for purchasing tickets and food. Let’s make this a musical event to remember!

Our Musical Cast and Crew have been practising super hard (all outside of school time) all year, with our wonderful musical staff – Sherree Anderson, Melanie Delisser, Chris Robbo, Alicia Tavelardis, Dee Mathiesen, Chappy hannah, Tom Makepeace and Jill Warschau!

Thank you to the musical students (both cast and crew) for their commitment and our staff’s passion. We know this will be an event not to be missed!

Student Leadership Opportunities

It has been amazing to see and hear our Year 5 students wanting to engage in leadership opportunities for 2025 working through their Captain Nomination Booklets. These booklets are due tomorrow.

Our Year 4 students have their first chance at leadership by nominating for the Vice Captaincy role. We will be speaking to our Year 4 cohort after assembly on Monday and providing any nominees with a condensed booklet to assist them in preparing should they want to nominate. Class Teachers do have an opportunity to sign the booklet for each child if they regularly see the student following our three school expectations – Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be a Learner by following our school values of Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Tolerant, Be Proud and Be Positive. These are the expectations and values we want to see in our school captains and vice captains.

Planning for 2025 – Class Considerations

We are busy planning enrolments, facilities, resources and staffing for the 2025 school year. If you have a child due to start Prep in 2025 and have not yet enrolled, please contact our Administration Officer ASAP. Our next prep 2025 transition sessions are:

Prep Parent Information Session:

3:30 - 4:30pm Thursday 7 November

Prep Enrolment Orientation Days:

Monday 11 November 9-9:30

Thursday 14 November 9-9:30

For parents of students from Prep-Year 5:

If you have any information that you would like us to consider for your child’s class placement in 2025, please email me on the principal email address, Principal@dayboross.eq.edu.au by Thursday 7 November. Please note:

  • You may wish to include information about family circumstances that should be considered
  • You may like to describe the qualities in a teacher that suit your child
  • We do not accept requests for a specific teacher.

A reminder that we usually only have two classes in each year level, so we cannot always accommodate student grouping requests. Our staff work extremely hard to achieve the best outcomes across all class groups and we certainly consider parent information. This is a confidential request.

Please also notify, by email, if your child will not be returning to Dayboro SS in 2025, so that we can ensure our staffing and resources are as accurate as possible.

Thanks for your assistance.

Student Success!

Mitchel, one of our year 4 student, has participated for the last 2 weekends at the Inline speed skate QLD Championships.  He competed on Track (indoor) and Road (outdoor).  He achieved the following outstanding results in the Track comp:

  • 4th place in 200m
  • 2nd place in the 500m, 1km, 3km

In the Road competition:

  • 3rd place in all events, 100m, 1 lap (400m), 1km, 3km

Last weekend, Mitchel competed in the half marathon of 21km with both male and female competitors up to two years older than Mitchel. Mitchel finished this race in 1hr 31m. What an effort in pushing through to the end!

While this is Mitchel’s first time competing at State level, he has been selected to represent Queensland at the nationals in January!!  Super proud of Mitchel’s achievements!

REBOOT – Emotional Regulation Program – Let’s skill our students!

Staff and students are continuing their Reboot learning and have been discussing strategies that can help when we are feeling dysregulated. A focus of Reboot is teaching children skills so that they can self-regulate and a large part of this is knowing which tool works for them as an individual. Of course, we know that what helps one person, may not work for another.

Classes have brainstormed strategies that could work for school. The next few weeks would be a great time to chat to your child about their 'toolbox' of calming strategies for school and  also the ones that could be used at home. Strategy ideas are listed below, but the list is not exhaustive. Are there others that work for you or your child?

Another focus of Reboot is for children to take an active part in their own problem-solving. At school we are working with students so that when they have a issue they can;  1) Clearly identify what  the problem is and 2) Think of possible solutions. The process empowers students to be solutionists with the guidance and support of adults.

Lastly, there has been a focus on a gratitude practise. Research has found an overwhelming connection between gratitude and our mental and  physical wellbeing. Chappy Hannah has worked with the Year six cohort to help cultivate gratitude and teachers throughout the school have asked their classes to consider what they appreciate.

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy and change opportunities into blessings ( William Arthur Ward). We are definitely grateful for the opportunities we have to help our learners develop their self-regulation and problem solving skills.
