Writing Success at Dayboro State School
In 2019, we are continuing to embed research-based strategies in the teaching of Writing at Dayboro State School. You may have heard your children talking about ‘Sizzling Starts’ or ‘Ban the Boring’, two important skills of effective writers. These are part of a toolbox of strategies teachers have been implementing as we seek to renew student enthusiasm, creativity and competency in the craft of writing. Teachers are participating in professional development sessions and peer mentoring to implement Modelled, Shared, Guided and Independent Writing in their classrooms. From Prep to Year 6 we are encouraging students to set individual learning goals and then reflect on their writing progress. Ask your child to share how they collaborate with other writers, and to tell you how ‘Dynamic Dialogue’ and ‘Show, Don’t Tell’ improves the quality of their writing.
