Parent Partnerships
This term we will once again offer Parent Teacher Conferences to discuss the students’ progress this year. Interviews are offered across the last two weeks of the term, depending on the individual teacher circumstances. Two later evenings are planned for Monday 9 September and Tuesday 10 September. These evenings will be hosted in the school hall, with child minding available. Please remember that if you meet with your child/ren’s teacher on other mornings or afternoons, you will need to visit the classroom and keep all of your children with you.
Please book now via our booking website: https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70654. Booking will close each Sunday evening (for the week) so that Teachers are aware of the interviews that they have scheduled. Please BOOK IN now?
Digital Learning
We have been working on our Digital Strategy here at Dayboro State School, including our Digital Learners for the Future Program is a part of this strategy. We are mindful that Digital innovation in teaching and learning features prominently in our Department of Education’s Excellence and Equity Strategy: realising the potential of every student.
This is an excerpt of our Equity and Excellence Key messages and resource guide:
Digital innovation in teaching and learning
- To prepare every child and student for a digitally-enabled future, we must ensure they have access to the technology that will enhance their learning.
- We will enhance teachers’ capability and confidence in digital teaching and learning.
- Investment in digital devices will provide students with greater access to technology and reduce barriers to learning.
- Digital learning connects students to more diverse curriculum and supports teachers to access specialist expertise.
This year, our Year 4 students have had the option of bringing an iPad to school to help them develop these digital skills and learn new ways to represent their learning. As discussed at the P&C meeting, recently we have heard some feedback through our parent survey from these parents. We are looking at our processes to refine them making it easier for families, but we heard clearly that the majority of parents are finding the program successful for their learners. In the term 4 parent calendar, we have scheduled some meetings to discuss this option with our year 3 parents for 2025.
Our Year 2 parents were also recently surveyed to ascertain support for an option to bring a device in Year 3 for 2025. There were several questions raised in this survey that we would love to answer for our current year 2 families. Therefore, we will hold a parent afternoon in week 9 inviting Year 2 parents to discuss these questions and provide more information about this option. Once we have done this, we will again ask whether parents would like to opt in for this program in 2025.
A trial change in our second break routines
We are currently trialling a change to our second break playtime/eating routines. Our teaching staff were reflecting on the students need for movement after the middle session and wanted to trial a play first, eat second model. This allows the children to calm after second break play and eat their snack. So, for the rest of term 3, our second break routine is as follows:
1:20 Bell for play
1:35 First bell signalling to go to the toilet, get a drink and head to eating area
1:40 Eating in covered areas
1:50 Bell to signal back to class.
Our Tucker Box second break lunches will be available for collection from 1:35pm. Ice Blocks and drinks will only be sold over the counter at First Break. Second Break treats will need to be pre-ordered through Schools24.
We will let you know how the trial progresses.
Family Arts Night – Thursday 5 September
Come along to our Family Arts Soiree where you will be wowed by your children’s dancing skills, they have learned this term at Dance Fever. Mrs Hinch has been working with each class on their Visual Arts unit and we will share their art pieces in an art display in the CSA. We are excited that our band students will perform along with our Choir. Our Musical cast will even give a sneak peek of a musical number.
P&C have organised a sushi dinner for families to pre-purchase, with cold drinks and wine and cheese (for the adults_ available on the evening.
We are super excited to share our cultural talents with our community!
With only just over 3 weeks to go of Term 3, please ensure that you are checking our latest Parent Calendar.
Book Week – Fabulous Parade!
We LOVE reading at Dayboro State School so what better way to celebrate books than Book Week! Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Barratt have done an amazing job talking to our students about Book Week and encouraging them to explore new texts in our school library. You should take a visit to our library to see the amazing engagement. The students have participated in voting for their Book from the Book Week awards and also many students participated in the colouring competition. The parade yesterday was fabulous and we loved the engagement from our parent community, Sargent Ken and Sargent Paul and Lorraine from Helping Hands. Huge thanks to Helping Hands for donating the book prizes.

The Meerkats performance was enjoyed by all of our students. It is such a good way to bring books to life!

Today at the parade, we marvelled at the fantastic costumes and most importantly talked to each other about which character we were from which book. What a buzz about reading!!! Thank you to all of our amazing parents and carers for your efforts in helping, reminding and making props and costumes!
In order to prepare for term 4 (and it’s going to be a long one!), We have prepared our first draft of the calendar. Please find attached below all of our dates so far….
Student Engagement
We wish our two Optiminds Teams luck for Sunday at their event! These students have been preparing for months for these problem-solving challenges. It was such a pleasure to see them practice their prepared challenge this week. The Opti-MINDS Challenge is an opportunity for all those with a passion for learning & problem solving to showcase their skills & talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way.
Thank you to Mrs Macintosh for preparing our teams and providing endless time and support while they prepare for their challenges. Thanks also to Mrs Ryan who will be a judge on the day.
Go Dayboro!!!

Have a great week!
