Deputy's News

Dear Families and Friends

TRANSITIONS

KRyan_Change_ahead.jpg

At this time of year, we start to look forward to a very important part of our role here at Dayboro and that is educating our students for all settings and preparing them for change. Not only do we start to think about welcoming and providing information to our future Prep students and families for 2025 but we also begin to prepare our Yr. 6 students for the next phase of their education journey- the transition into high school.

Our Partnerships with both early educators and high schools are very important to us and we encourage their involvement and participation in our school as much as we can.

PREP 2025- ENROLMENTS ARE OPEN

Thank you to those parents who attended the PREP ENROLMENT INFORMATION session last Thursday afternoon. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, don’t worry, there is still plenty of time. Please see Jill at the office for an enrolment pack and make a time for an interview.

If you know of any families with eligible Prep 2025 children in our local area please let them know we are taking enrolments now.

Families that are out of catchment can still submit an enrolment form and will go on a waiting list. All families are notified before the end of the year if they have been accepted.

Prep 2025 interviews will take place on Thursday 10th October and Friday 11th October next term. (Times available throughout the day.) Please ring Jill for a time now.

Shortly, after these, we will hold another Prep Information session with more detail about what to expect in Prep. This session is scheduled for Thursday 7th November at 3:30pm.

We will also have two open mornings where Preps for 2025 and their parents are invited to attend and see Prep in action and learn more about our school. Monday 11th November 9-9:30 and Thursday 14th November 9-9:30am.

Throughout the year we have been lucky enough to have our local kindies visit some of our Prep readiness sessions where the children have got to meet different teachers in our school as well as take part in a range of school activities such as Art, Technology and French.

LEARNING P-2 ENGLISH -WRITING GOALS

PREP

This term Preps have been learning how to recognise and create rhymes. This week they have been making up their own rhyming pairs and adding them to an existing rhyme. By the end of this unit they will be writing their own rhymes and presenting them to an audience of their peers. Amazing!!

YEAR 1

The focus for Yr. 1 in English this term has been retelling a cultural story. Why? Because retelling stories from our past is how to keep cultures, memories and important events alive. The Yr. 1’s have been learning how to write interesting retells about a variety of cultural stories such as How the Birds Got their colours (Dreaming story), The Four Dragons (China) and many more…

Right now, they are learning to retell a story in a logical sequence with main ideas and characters to add interest. They have also created a Cultural Word Wall to reflect and help describe the setting of each story. Ask your Yr. 1 student what their writing goal is.

YEAR 2

Year 2 are learning how to create and present entertaining multimodal procedures. Over the last 2 weeks, they have been creating procedures for a specific purpose, to make delicious or disgusting food. They have chosen specific describing words and adverbs to help add interest and to fit the purpose.

HASS NEWS

Prep have been learning in their HASS Unit: My Special Places, about recognising places that are significant and of importance to them. They have been drawing simple designs of their special place like their classroom or bedroom and then using modelling clay to create these spaces in a 3D visual representation. This is a wonderful use of an age- appropriate pedagogy to engage and inspire our students in their learning.

See their transformations below:

IMPORTANT PBL NEWS!

Our Awards are: Be Kind, Be Positive, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Proud and Be Tolerant. The Principal’s Award is also given out each week.

Every week we also have 4 students who receive GOTCHA awards. These students are spotted by other teachers in the playgrounds and classrooms and rewarded for doing the right thing with a GOTCHA award. They then go into the draw box where very week 4 students names are pulled out of the box. The winners receive a prize from the Prize Box and an ice block voucher.

  • Please, please… especially at this time of year …please keep your child at home if sick. We understand that it may take a few days to recover and you can easily communicate this via QParents or our Absence line.
