Principal's News
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Dayboro State School is pleased to participate in Under 8s Week in 2019.
This year, Under Eights Week across Queensland is focussing upon the theme of ‘Celebrating the diversity of languages within the home, culture and community’.
Our school will be celebrating with a fun filled morning of activities for our Prep-2 students and our local kindergarten students on Friday 24 May from 9.00am – 10.45am.
We also look forward to welcoming our local emergency services as well as students from Bray Park State High School who will assist throughout the morning.
Prep Enrolments -2020
We are already receiving enquiries about our Prep program for 2020. We are pleased to provide information and enrolment information anytime at our school office. However, I am able to advise that our Prep Information and Enrolment Morning will be held on Wednesday 28 August at 9.30am in our School Hall. This will be followed up with Prep interviews for all newly enrolled students from 14-18 October and a Prep Orientation Day on Tuesday 12 November.
If you have a child born between 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2019. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place – please check at http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/catchment/ for further information.
We have had several enquiries regarding enrolling at Dayboro Prep from outside the catchment area. Families who view Dayboro as their school of choice are very welcome to submit an enrolment application, however the outcome of the application will not be advised until late October when available places are allocated in the order of receipt.
I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2020.
School Uniform
With the cooler weather approaching, our students will want to start wearing jumpers and long pants. All students are required to wear the correct school uniform to school. The wearing of school uniform is most desirable and strongly encouraged. It helps to promote a sense of belonging, minimises school clothing costs as well as providing an important safety measure for children on excursions.
Winter Uniform
- School Hat
- School Polo Shirt and Shorts or Skorts, or Formal Uniform
- Navy Jumper (no hoodies)
- Navy Long pants
Other coloured jumpers or jackets or black jumpers with motifs or patterns are not part of our school uniform. We appreciate your support with our uniform policy.
Traditionally, winter brings the highest amount of lost or displaced clothing. Could I please ask parents to ensure that all clothing (particularly coats, track pants and hats) are clearly marked so that items can be returned to their owners.
Dogs in the School
Dayboro State School is a designated workplace, and as such strict Education Department policies exist around Workplace Health and Safety for staff, students and community members. As part of these policies, could I please remind our school community that dogs are not permitted inside the school grounds at any time. Service animals are excluded from this policy. Signs are erected on the school fences which display the Departmental policy.
I would like to thank everyone for your cooperation in ensuring that our school remains a safe environment for everyone.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be conducted from Tuesday 14 May until Thursday 16 May. NAPLAN assesses literacy
and numeracy skills that students are already learning through the school curriculum. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the test formats and will provide appropriate support and guidance. If you have any questions about your child’s participation or preparation around NAPLAN, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the school administration.
Friday 17 May is set aside as a ‘catch up day’ for students that may have been absent for all or part of the testing program.
Woolworths Earn and Learn
Once again, our school has signed up to be part of the Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion. In 2017, our school was able to secure over $3000 worth of new resources for our classrooms.
One Earn and Learn sticker is earned for every $10 of purchases at Woolworths Supermarkets. Please bring your stickers or completed sticker sheets and place them in the collection bin at the school office. Further collection bins for our school are located at Warner, Petrie and Strathpine Woolworths stores.
