Library & Maker Space
Maker space
We have had some very industrious students working in the maker space since the return from the holidays. We had some very interesting designs showcased in our recent “Design an outfit for a rubber duck” challenge. It was great to hear the conversations about the designs around the maker space table.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The 2024 Premiers Reading Challenge reading period begins next Monday. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 2 need to read or experience 20 books, students in Year 3 and Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books (this number of books acknowledges that older students are more likely to select longer and more complex books).
Students will be given a reader recording sheet in class, they can also get a copy of this recording sheet from the library. We would love to see as many students as possible working towards completing this reading challenge.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Students in all year levels are welcome to join in with the 24th annual National Simultaneous Storytime event on the 22nd of May during first break at the Library. Students welcome to visit the display at the Library during first break throughout this celebration week in May and are invited to join in with our celebration activities.
We would like so say a special “Thank You!” to Miss Tracey who has been very busy making our fabulous display board to promote and celebrate Bowerbird Blues in the Library. It looks amazing!
May is National Family Reading Month
This year is the 28th year of National Family Reading Month which celebrates and encourages families reading together. Why not take the 31 Day Family Reading Challenge? To participate in the 31 Day Family Reading Challenge simply read for a minimum of 10 minutes each day and mark the day’s reading on the record chart. The reading record chart is available from the Library and is also included below. Students who return their completed reading chart will receive a certificate of participation.
Have a great week!

Book Club
Book Club for Term 2 is currently open for ordering. Brochures have been sent home with students (spare book club brochures are available at the library), alternatively families are welcome to view the latest issue of Book Club on line. Orders for this issue of Book Club will close on Friday the 3rd of May.
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school and the books will be delivered to their class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/loop or by using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Alternatively, order forms with payment can be handed in at the school office. All orders placed through Book Club help to earn free reading books for the school library.
