Welcome back!
Welcome back to all of our Dayboro State School community for 2024. It has been wonderful welcoming back the students and seeing them settle into their classrooms and explore their new play areas and activities. It is great to see so many smiling faces ready to learn! A very special welcome also to all of our 41 new preppies and their families, as well as to all of our other new students across the school.
Our 2024 Dayboro State School Explicit Improvement Agenda is:
A whole school and community approach; striving for excellence and equity in curriculum and engagement ensuring high expectations for all.
We look forward to working with our community this year to ensure success for our students.
Our Dayboro SS staff worked very hard last week to ensure that the learning environments were thoughtfully prepared. The teachers collaborated to plan the teaching and learning to meet the needs of each student, providing quality and engaging learning. Our first two days have been extremely smooth with our students being introduced to the learning routines and their new units of work. We look forward to great learning as the term progresses.

Transitioning to a new year level can be an exciting but sometimes daunting experience. As your child settles in, there may be some adjustments required. The teachers at Dayboro SS are working hard to ensure that you are fully informed about the organisational structures within their classrooms. They will have also shared with you information about the year level Curriculum Overview. Talking to your child about their learning and their new class will assist them to transition. Please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher if you are unsure of procedures, we are happy to help out.
On Thursday 8 February, we will hold our Class Information Sessions for parents, in the afternoon between 3:10-5:45pm to share more about individual class structures and procedures. Our feedback from last year showed that parents valued having all of the information sessions on one afternoon/evening making it easier for parents and to help our school community to meet each other. On the afternoon, school staff will be in the library to look after any school aged children while parents attend their session (year 5 and 6 students are welcome to attend their session with their parents). A timetable will be distributed shortly via email. While we have tried very hard to separate year levels for families, I am aware that there are a couple of clashes. If a clash occurs, please consider sending a parent to each of the sessions. Teachers will provide follow up information for parents who are unable to attend.
The P&C will host a Community Sausage Sizzle for our Prep families from 5pm. Please consider staying for a sausage and a chat.

Our Parent Calendar outlines our special events for Term 1. We look forward to a busy and productive term with a number of special school events in the new few weeks, including:
- Class Information Sessions for Parents after school Thursday 8 February
- School Leaders Investiture Monday 5 February
Our fabulous P&C will also run a few community events this term:
- Family Fun Day at the Dayboro Pool Sunday 4 February
- Welcome BBQ for Preps after the Class information Sessions 5pm Thursday 8 February
Of course, our vision here at Dayboro SS continues to be - To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment. I look forward to being a partner with you in our child’s learning journey!
Welcome to our new staff!
We have welcomed a couple of new staff this year:
Thomas Makepeace has joined us as one of our Year 5 teachers.
”Hello good people of Dayboro, I'm Tom Makepeace, eager to bring my enthusiasm and dedication to this esteemed school. Having taught year 6 at Burpengary Meadows State School in 2023, I'm passionate about fostering growth in students. I've heard wonderful things about the people and the school's community, and I look forward to contributing to another fantastic year with this team.”
We also have a new Chappy, Hannah Drage.
“Hi, I am Chappy Hannah! I am very much looking forward to being a part of Dayboro State School community.
A little bit about me… I am a mum of four, and have always worked or volunteered with children, with a background in Early Childhood Education and Care. I am passionate about social and emotional wellbeing and holistic healthy living, giving children a voice and a sense of belonging and love to encourage a positive culture in the community that I am involved in. I love to be creative, play or listen to music, be naturally active daily, spend time outdoors (from the beach to the mountains), cheer on my favourite (or own children's) sports team and like to notice the little things in the world around me that bring wonder and joy. I can’t wait to meet you all individually as the people who also champion on our children.”
Have a great week!
Gabrielle
