Principal's News

Showcasing Swimming

Our Prep-Year 2 Swimming Showcase and our Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival, both held in the last week, showed off our students’ determination and joy of participation. Well done to all of our swimmers, especially the seniors as they battled rain yesterday. Mostly their enthusiasm did not wane? and they participated through until the end of events.

Encouraging our students to learn safe swimming techniques is super important as a lifelong skill and we take this very seriously. Thank you to the Dayboro Pool for being our partners and their careful tutelage of our students this year!

Our swimming carnivals of course would not happen without the amazing organisation and support from our staff. A huge thanks to Mr D for organising the Junior Swimming Showcases and Mrs Cassell for the Senior Carnival organisation! All of our staff pitch in and help support our students. They are mindful of every student having a chance to participate and work hard to ensure that this occurs. Below are some photos from our Senior Swimming Carnival, See Mrs Ryan's section for Photos of our Junior Swimming Showcase.

Excellence in Learning at Dayboro - A Dayboro Learner

GD_Dayboro_Learner.jpg

It has been wonderful to see the learning continuing in our classrooms this term. We have been encouraging our students to extend their thinking by being curious and creative.

Our staff are committed to engaging the students in rich learning tasks which stretch the students’ thinking. When given the scope, it is super satisfying to see how our students can represent their learning and how creative they can be.

4B invited me to attend their games showcase where they were super proud of their modelling the use of forces in games. Clever kids!

Student Leaders

Last week, we had the pleasure of hearing from our Year 5 students, who have nominated to be a student leader for 2024 speaking to our Dayboro senior students. It was so evident to see how proud our students are of their school and what they felt made Dayboro SS great.

Some of the students nominating for School Captain, Sports Captain or Vice Captains’ roles spoke about the impact their friends, teachers and parents have had on their learning and wellbeing, others gave examples of what makes our school so great and the opportunities they have had through their schooling. What was affirming was how confident our students were to stand up and speak before their peers about what a great school and community to which they belong.

Our students also learned more about voting and having a say in a super respectful way Such valuable lessons.

This week we look forward to the final panel for School Captains and the finalisation of the selection and voting of the Band, Choir, Sports Captains, Environment and Indigenous Ambassadors. I couldn’t be more proud of all of the senior students involved.

Next week we will farewell our well-loved Year 6 2023 cohort. While it will be with mixed emotions, I know that our students are well equipped and thoroughly prepared for their next step in education! This Year 6 cohort has worked hard throughout 2023 to lead our students, make the most of every opportunity and participate in everything Dayboro SS had to offer.

Congratulations to our class of 2023!!!

Christmas Disco

We are all getting super excited about the Christmas disco on Friday night. We are very thankful to our P&C and Chaplaincy committee for putting on this event.  It is sure to be a super fun evening. A reminder of the disco times:

  • Junior 4:30-5:30pm (Prep-Year 2)
  • Senior 6:00-7:00pm (Year 3-6)

Chappy DJ Rach will treat our students will to dance music and games. Best dressed in Christmas gear will be awarded prizes. Please remember to send a gold coin for entry. All donations will go to support chaplaincy at our school. Thanks to our P&C, each student receive an ice block when leaving. P&C will also provide coolers with water.

I spoke to the students on Monday at assembly about the guidelines for the evening:

  • Once students have entered the hall, they will need to remain in the hall until they are collected by parents or a family member over the age of 18. Please ensure they have someone to collect them.
  • Younger siblings are permitted to the disco (thinking the Junior disco). Please note that any high school siblings or non-Dayboro State School students are not permitted and will be refused entry.
  • Students are encouraged to bring their water bottle for refill at the water coolers in the hall.
  • No food or drinks will be for sale on the night. Ice Blocks are to be consumed outside of the hall once they are collected.

Looking forward to this fun way of celebrating with our community!

Planning for 2024

Next week we will release our final bonus school newsletter, where we will outline any staff changes for 2024. I will also announce all of our class teachers and specialist teachers for 2024. Student class placements will be emailed by the afternoon of Thursday 18 January prior to the Meet and Greet afternoon on Friday 19 January. This afternoon allows the students to bring up their 2024 school supplies and meet their class teacher and see their new learning environment. Pop it in the calendar?.
