Dear Families and Friends
TRANSITIONS
At this busy time of year, we can often forget that for many of our students and families it is a time of anticipation and sometimes anxiety about preparing for next year. The Yr. 6 students will be leaving for high school and for many, saying goodbye to old friends and teachers and getting ready for completely different routines can be a daunting experience. We are going to miss our Year 6 cohort but we know they are ready for the next part of their education journey. They are well- prepared and we will continue to support them with their transition.
We try to help this transition by connecting with our local high schools throughout the year and the students begin visiting and getting to know the staff. They also send Yr 7 coordinators to our school to get to know the students and their needs better. We would welcome any feedback from parents with suggestions on how we could improve this process for families, especially first- time high school families.
The following flyer was posted on our Facebook page regarding interviews held this earlier this week. If you missed it please contact the High School directly.
Preparing for Prep is also a big step for families of children starting Prep in 2024. Establishing routines and providing positive experiences are important ways of supporting your child.
Helping children enjoy a positive start to school
There are lots of ways you can help your child enjoy a positive start to school.
Some simple tips include:
- be ready to support your child
- listen to your child’s thoughts about starting school
- make time to talk, read, play and relax with your child
- share your positive feelings about school
- practise new routines
- encourage your child to keep trying when something is hard
- assist your child to know how to get help
- meet new children and families before the first day
- celebrate starting
Your child may raise questions or wish to share their thoughts about what school might be like. Talking with them about these feelings is a good way to help them, and you, prepare for a positive transition to school.
Your child’s language skills develop through the everyday conversations you have with them. At school we build on this language and the children’s thinking skills by listening, watching and being responsive in our teaching.

Now that the days are starting to get warmer please remember that it is an expectation that all children wear hats during play times and PE lessons. The rule is “No Hat, no Play!” Please remember to name your child’s hat as it makes it much easier to return lost hats to their owners.
Children that do not wear hats are expected to be in the CSA areas during break times.
Thank you to our Yr 6 teachers, Ms Foord and Mrs Cassell as well as Chappy Rach and Kev Enchelmaier for attending Yr 6 Camp last week. What a fabulous camp and what fabulous students. Thank you everyone involved.
