Library News
Welcome back for Term 4. I hope everyone had a chance to do some reading over the break – I can’t wait to hear about any new and amazing books that students have read during the holidays. Remember we are always happy for students to make suggestions or requests for book titles to be added to our Library collection. Students in Year 4, 5, and 6 also have access to the Education Queensland digital library (using Sora on the iPads) which can be used during breaks to read additional books, graphic novels, and audio books.
Just a reminder to all students to ensure that books are carried to and from school in library bags. We have had a significant number of books returned that have been damaged, mostly due to water or other liquids. Unfortunately, due the number of books that have been damaged, as well as the number of books that have been reported as lost, families will now need to arrange for a replacement copy of the damaged or lost book (or make a payment to pay for the replacement cost of the book). Any books that have been out on loan for more than twelve weeks will be considered a lost book and will need to be replaced if not returned.
Robotics
Since the beginning of term three approximately 20 Year 5 and Year 6 students have participated in our Lego Robotics Club during lunch breaks and for one session during learning time each week. The students have been making amazing progress with their robot construction techniques and their coding abilities.
We have now selected students to participate in our regional First Lego League competition on October 28th at Rothwell. These students will need to work together to design and build robots, plan coded solutions to earn points in a table game (each round is just two and half minutes long), and also plan an innovation project which uses technologies and creative industries to encourage others to participate in a hobby or interest that is meaningful to their team. There is a lot of preparation which needs to be completed by these students in the next four weeks, but they are more than ready for the challenge.
Students in the robotics club who have not been selected for the official First Lego League competition are competing in a school based competition against our other school based teams to design robots and complete coded solutions to challenges using the First Lego League competition mats and materials from last year. These teams have the luxury of additional time to work on robots and coding as they will not need to prepare an innovation project.
Have a great week!
Mrs Wilkinson.
