Principal's News

Farewell to our Mrs Mac!

Monday’s assembly was all about Mrs Mac! After 34 years, we are saying farewell over the next two weeks to a much loved member of staff who shows so much passion and commitment to our school and most importantly our school community. We were proud to host many special guests, past staff members and community reps including Susan Hughes, Kayleen Giles, Chris Borck, Jodie Jensen, Helen Rhue, Cindy McKenzie, Becky Seldon, Desley Morrison, Angie Russian, Lyn Dinham, Sargent Ken, Leith Heathwood, Denise Rouse and Garry Drummond, along with her sons, Todd, Gavin and Trent and their families including Kay’s 5 grandchildren.

We celebrated Mrs Mac’s commitment to Dayboro State school in all of the roles she has held over her career. Did you know she was the Tuckshop Co-ordinator and then started our first Dayboro State School Outside School Hours Care which was desperately needed by families. Kay then of course has worked as an Administration Assistant and first aide officer for the rest of this long career. With her no-nonsense approach, her knowledge of all things Dayboro and her fabulous baking, Kay has been integral to our Dayboro SS history. Our students and staff expressed their gratitude on Monday.

We will miss you, all the best Mrs Mac!!!! We know that you’ll continue to support us here including being an important member of our 150years celebration in 2024.

BUSES helping keep our children safe

We have had some concerns at the front of our school during drop off and pick up times. Our absolute priority is to keep all of our students safe entering and exiting the school grounds. Luckily, we have a comprehensive school bus service provided by Brisbane Bus Lines.

After some concerns by our treasured bus drivers who are trying to ensure our students’ safety, Andy and the company’s Workplace Health and Safety officer Linda came out to conduct a risk assessment yesterday morning (you may have seen us out there). These assessments will then be shared to all interested parties such as our school, MBRC and QLD Transport as part of ongoing discussions around the best outcome for our school. I see this as a super positive move as we were able to discuss lots of options to help our families understand the guidelines (yes all of the signs have different information etc) and have safe ways to drop students off to school.

WE advocate that that our students travel by bus which will avoid congestion of parking around the school. Our bus students are well supported by our staff to get onto the buses each afternoon. Did you know that ALL students can travel on the bus services? If you live further than 3.2kms from the school, you can access a free travel pass. Brisbane bus line services can be found using the link below but if you live slightly outside these links, please contact Andy Russell from Brisbane Bus Lines and he can support you with information. Sometimes they are even able to adjust their loops.

If you are looking for school bus travel and timetable information, then please be advised that you can now access our complete school bus service options including timetables and connection maps for your convenience, by visiting our website below.

If you are still unsure about bus travel, why not visit us at school and see our processes in the afternoons to support our students’ safety!

Prep 2024!!!

We have been commencing our transition activities for our 2024 Prep Cohort. Recently we held our Prep Information Session, trialling an afternoon timeslot to see if it was better for families.

Next Thursday and Friday we will hold our Prep Interviews where we will meet with parents and also hold a little groups session for our pre-preps to explore some activities with our Prep Teachers. We really look forward to meeting our new families and welcoming those siblings we know are ready for big school! If you know of a child in our community who is due for Prep next year, please encourage them to contact our school office as we are enrolling NOW!

Parent teacher Conferences

It has been wonderful connecting with parents over the last couple of weeks to share the progress for your children and their next steps for learning. A huge thank you to our teachers who have prepared fully for these conferences so that they are able to share the important learning journey. These partnerships are so very important and model for our students how invested you are in their schooling.

Thank you for sharing your valuable information about your children, as you know them the best, and listening to how they are tracking at school. A reminder that you can contact your child’s teachers throughout the term via email to book a conference or phone catch up if required.

Thanks for sharing the learning journey.

Parent Calendar

Such a busy time of the term. Please find attached our latest version of the Parent Calendar: Version 3. Please note the special Pyjama day on the last day of term (year 5 will do something on camp). Student Council will raise money by charging a gold coin on this day for the Pyjama Angels charity to support volunteers to read books to children in foster care. Thanks for supporting?

Student Success!

It was wonderful to celebrate our Lion’s Art Award winners on Monday – Jace and Hanne. These students’ art works were selected by the Lion’s Club as the winner and runner up for the Lion’s Directory. Congratulations!

QParents – Please sign up for consents! Urgent news re excursions/incursions

After our Administration Officers spending multiple hours on the phone this year chasing up payments for incursions and excursions, we will unfortunately now be withdrawing students who haven’t paid from these events by the day. We do send multiple reminders to families encouraging them to complete the payments, or a payment plan. Class Teachers also send emails to remind parents. The easiest way is to sign up for QParents to keep a track of permission forms and invoices.

QParent invitations have been sent to each family, but if you need assistance, please see Jill in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and odd Wednesdays. SIGN UP TODAY!
