Chappy's News

Hi everyone,

As always I hope you are going amazing. I know that life can be full on and everyone is faced with tough things at one point or another, so I hope that if that is you, that you make sure you look after yourself. Here’s what’s happening this fortnight in Chappy world:

Rock and Water Program

The past 2 weeks our Year 3 groups have been learning how to stand strong using grounding, centring, focusing and taking a low breath. These are the self-regulation tools that are at the heart of our Rock and Water unit. We learn these through games – for example, the ‘Monkey Grip’ game, where we hold a partner by the arm, lean back and let go on the count of 3. If our body is calm and we are standing strong, we won’t stumble backwards. The same can be said for the choices we make. If we have taken the time to help our body (and our nervous system) be calm, we will make wiser choices about our actions.

From there, we have discussed what it means to be a strong person, both physically and internally. Can I be a good rock? i.e Can I say no to peer pressure? Can I stand up for myself? We have also discussed how it is good to be like water in relationships – to offer friendship, communication, solidarity and peace.  Students have also started setting their Rock and Water goals for this term. This might look like: “I want to remember to take a breath when I am angry”.  We have really enjoyed using the new outdoor classroom to do this!

9 square-in-the-air

The chaplaincy committee was able to purchase the game “9 Square” for our school. We have been able to use this at lunch clubs, SUPA club and will use it in the future for special events like school camp. Thanks so much to the donors who contributed towards this:

Dayboro Sherriff’s Fund Trivia Night 2023

This year the chaplaincy committee is working alongside the DSF to put on the annual trivia night in Dayboro. They have very graciously offered for proceeds to go to supporting chaplaincy at DSS, as well as to the Endeavour Foundation. Tables are on sale NOW – get in quick! (at the time of writing this, there are 7 already gone). See flyer below.

Local Chaplaincy Committee

We are currently seeking a new treasurer for the Dayboro SS chaplaincy committee. We would love this person to be a parent or family member connected to school. If you would like to help support in this way or simply want to know more, please contact me via the e-mail below.

A treasurer is required to:

  • Prepare and present a financial overview at termly committee meetings
  • Ensure all fundraising activities and events comply with GST requirements and that an event application has been completed for insurance purposes
  • Liaise with SU Australia regarding financial matters
  • Approve transactions and reimbursements

Our next LCC meeting is on 17 August at 3:30pm, all are welcome to attend.

If you have any questions or need support in any way I have lots of practical resources like food hampers and frozen meals available. Please feel free contact me at:
