Junior Athletics Carnival – what a blast!

It was wonderful to see the participation and enthusiasm of our early year’s students at our Junior Athletics Carnival on Friday. They ran, they jumped, they threw, they worked as a team in ball games and cheered each other on as they participated! In the junior years, we feel it is important to encourage our students to just have a go without the pressure of competition so thank you to our amazing community for turning out to cheer these little ones on!

We were also excited to have a visit from Barefoot Kindy and Dayboro Community Kindy, helping our younger learners see what we do here at DSS, encouraging participation. It was fun to see our Dayboro Little Learners playgroup also participate.

Of course, these events would not be possible without a huge amount of organisation and setting up. A huge thanks to Mr D for his expert organisation and to George for set up and maintenance of this, our outdoor learning space. Thanks to all of our staff who go above and beyond to prepare and support our students to be their best.

Dayboro Digital Learners for the Future!

Over the past 12 months, our Dayboro Digital Learning Team, have been working on a proposal to introduce a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for our students. After consulting with experts in the field, several other schools with established digital learning programs, and our P&C, we have decided to commence a roll out in Year 4 in 2024, allowing students to bring their own iPad to school to use as a tool for learning. Later this term, our current Year 3 parents will be invited to an information session outlining the optional Dayboro Digital Learners for the Future program. After this initial information session, we will host a series of drop in and chat afternoons for parents to engage with our staff, asking questions, and learning more about the program. We look forward to support our students in this engaging opportunity to enrich their learning.

A reminder that next week we have our Show Holiday on the Monday 14 August and are here at school on Wednesday 16 August. Our next P&C meeting is

A Dayboro Learner

Our Dayboro students are really embracing our qualities of A Dayboro Learner and have recently been practising being Curious and Creative learners like Kev the Kookaburra. Look at how our students have been demonstrating curious and creative learning here in the past two weeks….

We will continue to prioritise the teaching of these qualities and so introduced Karly the Kangaroo who is a Collaborator. We will be teaching students these qualities as they engage in their learning this fortnight and can’t wait to celebrate at parade next Monday!

Why don’t you ask your learner about how they are engaging in these different qualities in their learning?

School Opinion Survey

Our department’s annual School Opinion Survey has now opened. Parents will receive an email with their log on details. I would encourage you to fill this survey in about our wonderful school.

Who is surveyed? Respondents include:

  • Parents/Caregivers—every family in the school with a child enrolled in Kindy to Year 12.
  • Students—all students from Years 5, 6, 8 and 11 will be invited to participate in survey. However, in some smaller schools, students in Years 4, 7, 9 or 10 may also be invited to participate.
  • Staff—all principals, teaching and non-teaching school staff employed during the survey period. This survey includes permanent, temporary, casual, part-time and full-time staff and excludes staff on leave during the survey period.

We really appreciate your feedback to assist in planning improvement strategies.

We also had 3 students selected to attend the Intermediate Primary Instrumental Music Workshop with all of the school in our region. William, Charles and Jasper had a wonderful time being instructed by our regional Instrumental Music teachers and performed beautifully as a part of the regional Big Band on Tuesday afternoon. Great job boys!!
