Principal's News

 Learning!

We use many high impact teaching strategies here at Dayboro SS to support our students’ learning. One of these pedagogies is the Gradual Release Strategies – ‘I do…’, ‘We do….’, ‘You do…’.

The ‘We do…’ can be used to promote student collaboration to rehearse or practice the learning required for the independent representation. Our teachers are using many strategies to support our students to collaborate on their learning:

Year 3 are working together to have a go at using the OREO paragraph for writing a persuasive letter:

Year 4 are sharing their ideas about when they will use dialogue to enhance their characterisation in their Traditional Tales:

Prep students are sharing their story retell events before they represent these events in their writing:

Once they have had a chance to collaborate, our learners are confident to represent their learning independently. We love collaboration to support learning!

Lifelong Learners – our staff modelling!

Some of our experienced teachers have modelled what it is to be a life-long learners! They are collaborating to observe each other, have professional conversations to feedback to each other…. this is collegial engagement at it’s best! We also have wonderful conversations with our students about the need for everyone to receive feedback to learn and how to challenge yourself to be a lifelong learner!

These extremely capable teachers are striving together to achieve our first Explicit

Improvement Agenda (EIA) goal: Excellence – in pedagogy - investing in staff to enact high impact pedagogies matched to students’ next steps extending our student learning by challenging themselves to dissect their quality teaching practices, collaborate professionally and look for strategies to extend.

Dayboro Community at its best!!!

GD_DDay_thank_you.png

We love how our community work together to support each other and our wonderful school! Dayboro Day was an excellent example of P&C strategic planning and our willing volunteers supporting the stall. Thank you to everyone involved!

A huge thank you to our tuckshop volunteers as well for rallying around while Alison is away unwell. A special mention to Heather Oldfield for her dedication to ‘keep things running!’.

Thank you to all our P&C Executive and our Fundraising working party for the many hours spent on theses events!!!

Facilities – Look at our amazing grounds!

A few of our large projects have now been completed, allowing for some wonderful facilities for our students! Recently the Multipurpose Court was completed providing a valuable and flexible sporting arena as well as lunchtime club options.

Our Deck and Amphitheatre has also just been completed providing opportunities for outdoor learning as well as a plethora of lunchtime options for our creative and outdoor students. This deck is also wheelchair accessible, making it a very valuable outdoor learning space!

The next major facilities project commences next week with our B Block classroom extension/remodelling. This will be followed by the 2C and 1/32A D Block classrooms. Once completed, this early year’s precinct will enjoy spacious, modern classroom interiors with state-of-the-art technology, while retaining the charm of these beautiful old buildings! The D Block renovation also includes a learning deck to allow for another beautiful outdoor learning space for our learners…. We look forward to these finished facilities!

Student Voice!!!

Our Student Council representatives have been amazing at sharing their class’s contributions to the committee and making things happen! Our recent Ice Cream Day (thanks to Sargent Ken and his helpers) raised $409.30. The Councillors decided to contribute the funds to support Wildlife Rescue whose carers have certainly helped out our DSS critters from time to time.

Stay posted for our very exciting introduction of our Friendship Benches over the next few weeks, another Student Council Initiative!
