Library and Maker Space
Library
We have had a busy start to Term 2 with lots of activities available in the Maker Space at lunch time. Lego has been a very popular choice and we have seen lots of box construction by students from across the school this term, including a very impressive bike track with jumps and loops. Students also had the chance to design and test pirate boats in the lead up to our Book Fair.
Event Reminders:
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The 2023 Premiers Reading Challenge reading period begins on the 8th of May. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 2 need to read or experience 20 books, students in Year 3 and Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books (this number of books acknowledges that older students are more likely to select longer and more complex books).
This year there has been a slight change with the way student details are saved for the production of certificates, this means we now require written parent/carer consent for students to have their information stored on an external database so that completion certificates can be produced at the end of the reading challenge. Students will be bringing home a more detailed explanation letter with their reading log and consent form in the coming days.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Students in all year levels are welcome to join in with the 23rd annual National Simultaneous Storytime event on the 24th of May during first break from 11.00 a.m. After listening to this year’s book, “The Speedy Sloth”, students are welcome to stay for the remainder of first break and join in with our celebration activities.
May is National Family Reading Month
May is National Family Reading Month which celebrates and encourages families reading together. Why not take the 31 Day Family Reading Challenge? To participate in the 31 Day Family Reading Challenge simply read for a minimum of 10 minutes each day and mark the day’s reading on the record chart. The reading record chart is available from the Library and is also included below. Students who return their completed reading chart in early June will receive a certificate of participation.
Have a great week!
