Deputy's News
Learning at Dayboro.
Well, Term 1 has finished and our students are hard at work planning for and working towards reaching their learning goals for Term 2.
Last term, Year 1 were exploring how a story works. They learnt what the purpose of telling imaginative stories is and learnt how to retell well-loved stories they have heard before. They learnt how important the story structure is and that problems in stories make them more interesting.
I wanted to share some examples of the writing work that our Yr 1 learners completed at the end of Term 1. They worked diligently towards their writing goals. With clear expectations and fun and engaging learning along the way, the writing that our Year 1 students ended up completing, was outstanding.
EXCITING WRITING
Retell- Big Rain Coming (Des 1T)
On Sunday Old Stephen said, “Big Rain coming.” On Monday there was no rain during the night. Rosie’s kids dragged their nice warm cosy beds hoping for a lot of breeze. On Tuesday there was still no rain. The dogs were digging in the nice cool dirt. On Wednesday there was still no rain. The kids went swimming in the still billabong. On Thursday the big fat frogs were sitting under the dripping tank because there was no rain still. On Friday Old Stephen said, “Big Rain Coming” but there was still no rain. On Saturday there was finally rain- cool, wet rain.
Retell- Big Rain Coming (Sanne 1T)
On Sunday Old Stephen nodded to the clouds and he said big rain coming. He lived in the outback. On Monday there was still no rain and the it was so hot. The kids dragged their mattresses outside to get some breeze while they slept. On Tuesday it went all day without any rain. The dogs dug a hole to keep cool but there still wasn’t any rain. On Wednesday the sad, hot kids swam in the billabong and it was so still and hot but there was still no rain. On Thursday the green fat frogs wanted some water but there wasn’t any rain or water for the green fat frogs. It was finally Friday Old Steven said, Big Rain coming” but there still wasn’t any rain. On Saturday there was rain lots of cool, wonderful rain… finally!
