Representing our school with pride

KRyan_Leaders.jpg

Well this year we are back to normal, which means excursions, attending community events like Dayboro Day and bringing back well-loved traditions on our school calendar.

It is important to remember that whenever we go to sporting events, instrumental/choir performances, camps or are just out and about in the community, our students are expected to represent their school with pride. This is an important part of being RESPECTFUL. This expectation can be shown in many different ways, from wearing the correct uniform to being considerate of others in the community. The feeling we get when someone outside of our school says, “Wow! Those Dayboro kids are really well-mannered” or “I am really impressed with their behaviour”, is really encouraging and something to be celebrated.

A few ways you can encourage your child to represent their school with pride is:

  • ensuring they are wearing the correct uniform and it’s neat and tidy;
  • discussing behaviours that are appropriate when out in the community;
  • role-playing scenarios of interactions with others; and
  • talking positively with your child about their school experiences and encouraging them to talk and think positively about their school.

Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of your children and equip them with the skills to BE RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL, POSITIVE, PROUD, KIND, TOLERANT citizens.

 Talking about being out and about in our community- Yes our annual Easter Hat Parade is back on!!!  We love how the whole community comes out to welcome us as we walk through the town and finish with a small concert on the stage to celebrate.  This will be on the last day of the term Friday 31st March.

This year we have asked the Yr. 3 students to join in as they have missed out for the last couple of years.

There is more information about the Easter Hat parade below.

Please remember that children are expected to wait in the CSA before School between 8:15am until the bell goes at 8:40am. The children are supervised during this time.

There should not be children playing on equipment or waiting outside classrooms before this time. A reminder that all mobile phones should be put away in bags on entry and exiting the school. They should then be handed to the class teacher on arrival to class.

BUS BEHAVIOUR

KRyan_Bus.jpg

It has come to our attention that some students have been behaving inappropriately on the buses. The bus driver has a very important job to do and that is to get our students safely home. They cannot be distracted by students that cannot control their own behaviours. Please talk to your students about appropriate behaviours on the bus such as sitting still, (not moving around) talking quietly to the person beside them (not shouting at others) and certainly keeping their hand and feet to themselves (not hitting or contacting others with objects). Please help to keep all our students safe by reinforcing with your students ow important it is that the bus driver can concentrate and get our students to and from school safely.

NAPLAN

KRyan_Naplan.jfif

A reminder that Years 3 and 5 will be taking part in the annual NAPLAN Online assessments from Wednesday 15th March until Friday 24th March. Please try to ensure that students are on time especially during this period and also please limit outside appointments during school time and planned absences if possible.

KRyan_Playgroup.jpg

We would like to see if any parents in our Dayboro school community or outside our school, would be interested in coming along to a playgroup that would be run by and held at Dayboro school.  We have already had about 5 families interested in participating. I will be ringing them shortly to discuss days and times. This is an exciting opportunity for parents of younger children, in our community, to meet and have their children engage in high quality play-based learning and socialisation activities provided by a trained facilitator, usually a member of our school staff.

If this is something you would be interested in attending with your younger child, please let us know so we can start to see if we would have enough interest so we can start looking at providing this wonderful opportunity for our Dayboro families.

Call our office 34256111 and please leave your name and phone number so we can start to get an idea of numbers interested. We will then ring you and let you know if we will push ahead and give you more details.

On Thursday 9th we held our first meeting to plan for our 150year celebrations in 2024!!  We had a big turn-out of staff and a representative from our P&C who attended. We would love members of our community to be involved also. We would love any history buffs, past students or anyone interested in the life of our school here in Dayboro to come along and share their ideas and thoughts on how we can celebrate such an important milestone for our school. Our next meeting will be on Thursday 16th March. Please ring the office if interested in attending. 34256111

PREP VISION SCREENING IMPORTANT FOR PREPS

Every year we are fortunate to be able to provide free Vision screening for our Prep students.  Please read the information below and follow the link to sign up for this free service. The testing is conducted by the School Health Nurse. It takes place at school on a school day.

The Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program will be screening at your child’s school commencing on Thursday 23rd March 2023. We are a Queensland Government service that offers Free Vision Screening to all children enrolled in Prep.  If your child is in Prep and you would like their vision screened, you will need to complete a consent form.

The following video explains the benefits of having your Prep child’s vision screened- “What is Prep Vision Screening?”

Please click on the following link to access the Online Consent Form and Parent Information

The cost is $18 and will be conducted by the UQ Hearing Screening faculty. It is important that students have any hearing and vision issues identified early to help get on top of any problems that may arise from impaired vision or hearing in the early years. The date for Hearing Screening is Wednesday 29th March.

Week 10 important dates:

Monday 27th March- Prep Vision Screening – Free
