Library and Maker Space News
Library News and Events
Last week we celebrated Queensland School Library Week and Library Lover’s Day. Students who visited the library during breaks last week were able to participate in activities celebrating libraries and a love of books and reading.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our display with either the name of a book you loved or a quote from a story or poem that meant something to you.
Australian Reading Hour
Australian Reading Hour will be held on Thursday 9th March. We would like to encourage everyone to set aside some time for reading on this day – this could be reading on your own or reading with someone else. For more information visit the Australian Reading Hour website. We’d love to see photos of you joining in!
Borrowing
Students are reminded that they are able to return and borrow books at both breaks every day as well as during their weekly class time. Please remember to bring your library bag – students without a library bag are welcome to come along to the maker space to make their own.
Book Club
Keep an eye out for the first issue of Book Club for 2023 which will be sent home in the coming weeks. Book Club is issued four times per year at Dayboro State School (once per term). This year Scholastic have changed the format of their brochure to be more like a newspaper, this new format is more environmentally friendly to produce.
All books purchased through Book Club earn rewards with Scholastic which are then used to purchase new books for the Library collection. This gives us the opportunity to purchase books that have been requested by students.
Orders and payment for books can be made online via Scholastic’s LOOP ordering system, alternatively, orders with a cash payment can be left at the office in a clearly named envelope.
For more information visit Scholastic’s website for the Parent Guide.
We would also like to thank the families who have generously donated books to the Library over the last few weeks. We truly appreciate your ongoing support.
Maker Space
Maker space continues to be busy during breaks. Last week the cup stacking challenges proved to be a popular lunch time activity. Tallest towers, greatest number of cups in a stack, and constructing set shapes were favourite challenges (although the heart shape proved to be a bit too challenging for some students – until the secret of cardboard supports was revealed). Some students have even expressed an interest in competitive cup stacking!
Have a great week!
