Library and Maker Space News
New Books
We have a selection of new books available for students to borrow – keep an eye out for the next volume in your favourite book series. We were able to purchase these new books for our Library collection using rewards points that the school earns when students purchase books through Book Club and Book Fair.
Borrowing
It has been fantastic to see so many enthusiastic borrowers come to the Library already this year! When children borrow books we are hoping to foster a love of reading by helping children to select a book they will enjoy and with just the right amount of challenge. During class visits we have been discussing the “just right” strategy for students to use when selecting books. This strategy empowers students to select books that will allow them to read with independence, but still provide them with an opportunity to improve their reading.
Students who are in need of a Library bag can come to the Library to can make their own bag during lunch break in the maker space. Books can be exchanged at first break and second break each day, students do not have to wait until their class borrowing day to exchange books.
Australian Reading Hour
This year Australian Reading Hour is moving to Thursday 9th March. Keep an eye out for more information over the coming weeks, or check out the Australian Reading Hour website.
Maker Space
We have had a busy start to the year in the maker space. We have had children coming along to make items of their own creation as well as completing some of the challenges.
We would like to ask for some household recyclables to be donated for students to use in the Maker Space, in particular we are asking for cardboard boxes (e.g. cereal boxes, muesli bar boxes etc). Please do not send egg cartons along, we have a large supply at school already as we must use new cartons due to possible contamination risks for students with an egg allergy.
Thank you.
