Deputy Principal's News

Dear Families and Friends

High Five Strategies

KRyan_High_5.jpg

Every year Dayboro State School students learn about our High Five Strategies. These strategies are tools students can use in the playground and school environment to help deal with conflict or a problem situation with other students.

We encourage our students to start at number one when dealing with a problem with their peers and work through the steps until the problem is resolved or needs further assistance.

When a student feels they are in a situation of conflict or disagreement they can do the High Five:

  1. Talk Friendly – use respectful words to tell the person about the problem in a calm way and suggest ways to solve the problem.
  2. Talk Firmly – Use a serious voice without yelling to get the message across. Don’t smile or wave arms about. Be assertive but don’t give put downs.
  3. Ignore – Look away. Don’t smile. Distract yourself by thinking of something else. Do not speak any further with the person.
  4. Walk Away – Move away from the student involved in the problem. Find a friend or go to the playground or library.
  5. Report – Ask a teacher for help. In the playground look for the teacher on duty with a high five poster on the back of their folder. Explain the problem to them in an honest way. Tell the teacher the strategies you have used already.

PLAYGROUP

We would like to see if any parents in our Dayboro school community or outside our school, would be interested in coming along to a playgroup that would be run by and held at Dayboro school. We would like to provide an opportunity for parents of younger children, in our community to meet and have their children engage in high quality play-based learning and socialisation activities provided by a trained facilitator, usually a member of our school staff.

If this is something you would be interested in attending with your younger child, please let us know so we can start to see if we would have enough interest so we can start looking at providing this wonderful opportunity for our Dayboro families.

Call our office 34256111 and please leave your name and phone number so we can start to get an idea of numbers interested. We will then ring you and let you know if we will push ahead and give you more details.

A reminder that we are holding our first meeting to plan for our 150year celebrations in 2024!! The meeting will be held this Thursday at 3:30pm in our school staffroom.

We would love any history buffs, past students or anyone interested in the life of our school here in Dayboro to come along and share their ideas and thoughts on how we can celebrate such an important milestone for our school.

Attention all parents that volunteer in classrooms.

Thank you for expressing an interest to help out in your child's classroom. Every year we hold a parent/ volunteer induction session to fill you in on the latest information around helping out at school. We encourage all parents who volunteer anywhere in lour school setting- tuckshop, sports, classrooms to attend.

If you are not a parent and wish to volunteer to help,  a reminder that you require a Blue Card to be a helper in schools now and that these can take a long time to apply for. You cannot help at a school unless your Blue Card has been approved and you have received it.
