Principal's News
Welcome back!
Welcome back to all of our Dayboro State School community for 2023. It has been wonderful welcoming back the students this week and seeing them settle into their classrooms and explore their new play areas and activities. It is great to see so many smiling faces ready to learn! A very special welcome also to all of our 47 new preppies and their families, as well as to all of our other new students across the school.
Our Dayboro SS staff worked very hard last week to ensure that the learning environments were thoughtfully prepared. The teachers collaborated to plan the teaching and learning to meet the needs of each student, providing quality and engaging learning. Our first two days have been extremely smooth with our students being introduced to the learning routines and their new units of work. We look forward to great learning as the term progresses.

Transitioning to a new year level can be an exciting but sometimes daunting experience. As your child settles in, there may be some adjustments required. The teachers at Dayboro SS are working hard to ensure that you are fully informed about the organisational structures within their classrooms. They will have also shared with you information about the year level Curriculum Overview. Talking to your child about their learning and their new class will assist them to transition. Please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher if you are unsure of procedures, we are happy to help out.
Next Thursday afternoon, we will hold our Class Information Sessions for parents to share more about individual class structures and procedures. We wanted to share these sessions all on one evening this year to make it easier for parents and help our school community to meet each other. School staff will be in the hall to look after any school aged children while parents attend their session (year 5 and 6 students are welcome to attend their session with their parents). I have included the organisation around these sessions below. While we have tried very hard to separate year levels for families, I am aware that there are a couple of clashes. If a clash occurs, please consider sending a parent to each of the sessions. Teachers will provide follow up information for parents who are unable to attend.
The P&C will host a Community Sausage Sizzle from 5:15-6:15 for families as they finish up their session. Please consider joining us for a chat between these times.

Our Parent Calendar outlines our special events for Term 1. We look forward to a busy and productive term with a number of special events including:
- Cross Country
- Harmony Day 21 March
- Parent Teacher Conferences week 9
- Easter Hat Parade week 10
Of course, our vision here at Dayboro SS continues to be To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment. I look forward to being a partner with you in our child’s learning journey!
Parking and dropping off – let’s keep our children safe!
This week understandably, we have had increased traffic around our school, as our families drop off on the first week of school. As a community however, we need to be mindful of some safety procedures around our school pick up and drop off areas to ensure that we are keeping our children safe.
We love that many of our students arrive or leave on the school buses. Recently, the drivers of these much-needed buses, have reported a lot of cars and traffic in the bus bay area preventing their access for drop offs and departure. Parent, please be aware that the turn around bay and the bus bay in front of our prep area, need to stay clear during before school and afternoon pickups. This promotes safety for our students who catch the bus and ensures that we don’t have children crossing in this area.
Our crossing supervisors do an amazing job in helping our students and families get across McKenzie St. Please use the pedestrian crossing when walking your children. Below I have included the information recently sent to us by the Moreton Bay Regional Council regarding parking. I certainly would not want any of our families to be fined!
Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) Local Laws Unit
Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) Local Laws Unit undertakes a School Parking Patrol Program where officers complete scheduled school patrols, both in the morning and afternoon, to ensure that vehicles are parked in a safe and lawful manner. The primary aim of the program is to ensure that students and family members/caregivers are able to safely move around the school area as part of dropping off or picking up students from the school.
The Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.5 (Parking) 2011 and Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1999 control parking or stopping of vehicles on footpaths, bicycle paths, marked yellow lines, shared paths, dividing strips and nature strips, along with vehicles parking across resident’s driveways and within ‘No Stopping’, ‘No Parking’, and ‘Bus Zones’ and Pick-up / Drop -off zones. Council is legally required to enforce these areas and the School Parking Patrol Program forms part of this process. Drivers are reminded that footpaths and nature strips are in place to promote pedestrian movement in a safe manner along roadsides and that drivers and residents must not stop on a bicycle path, shared path, dividing strip or nature strip. Please also note that vehicles that are parked with two wheels up and two wheels down is not considered as a lawful parking practice.
Local Laws officers conduct enforcement through the issuance of Penalty Infringement Notices as part of each School Parking Patrol. Please be aware that Council officers may take photographic evidence of vehicles stopping or parking illegally with Penalty Infringement Notices to be issued via mail at a later date to the offending vehicle’s owner.
Visit www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/parking for further guidance on parking restrictions.
Welcome to our new staff!
We welcomed our new teachers to Dayboro SS at the end of last year’s newsletter. We also have Guidance Officer, Kate Ogilvie re-joining our team. We welcome Kate back to our beautiful school.
Hello everyone! My name is Kate Ogilvie and I will be joining the Dayboro team this year as the Guidance Officer. I have a background in primary school teaching and have been a Guidance Officer for four years in a mixture of primary and high school settings.
I live with my partner and we have a beautiful fur baby, Molly.
My role as a Guidance Officer is to support all of our families at Dayboro in whatever capacity they need. I look after mental health, children in care and cognitive assessments. I will be at Dayboro on Thursdays. If you see me around, feel free to say hello! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to have a chat.
Have a great week!
