Principal's News

This term, our teachers have been discussing with their students what they need to do in their learning to be successful. Our students call this their success criteria. The learning walls are a space in the classroom where the class can keep all of the examples of their learning so far. These help the students as they are working through their tasks as they can revisit great language that the class have brainstormed of examples of great sentences, ideas or elaborations. I love seeing our students developing their skills and using their environment to learn.

Teachers have also been working very hard on providing quality feedback for our students so that they know clearly how to improve their learning. This means that the students really have to understand how they can be successful and with their feedback, they can understand exactly what their next step is. The class will collaborate on some ways to ’bump up’ their learning and record these on their Bump It Up Walls.

How wonderful that our students have a very clear idea of what a good one looks like and more specifically, how they can achieve their next step. Why don’t you ask your child, “What have you been learning about? And…What is your next step?”

School Opinion Survey Results

Recently, we received our School Opinion Survey results and we are celebrating our successes. Thank you to the parents, students and staff who completed the survey to provide feedback to help us improve. Our staff will be unpacking the feedback gathered by the survey to plan for areas we can strengthen or enhance for our staff, students and community.

Congratulations to our DSS First Lego League teams

On Saturday, two teams of Year 5 and 6 students, 9 students in total represented Dayboro State School at the First Lego League competition on the Sunshine Coast. Mr Reis and Mrs Wilkinson have been coaching our Robotics club each Monday afternoon and many lunch times. Thank you also to Mr Horne and Mrs MackIntosh for also supporting. Both teams received great scores and positive feedback from their innovation projects and showed fantastic team work skills.  Both the Detonators and the Dominator teams were placed in the top four for the robot game which is an amazing result from 21 teams. The Dominators team were awarded runners up in the Core Values category at the First Lego League competition and have performed well enough across all categories of the competition that they now advance to the State Championships to be held at Rothwell in November. They are to be congratulated for their positive attitude, resilience and participation in all aspects of the competition throughout the day.

A huge thank you to our staff who coached the students and attended on the day to support our teams. We will keep you informed as our team progresses to the next level. Go Dayboro!!!
