Deputy's News
Dear Families and Friends
As we begin to edge towards the end of Semester One, our students have been very busy finishing work and assessment tasks. Teachers are also busily in the midst of marking students’ work and writing report cards.
Report Cards will be be emailed to parents on Wednesday in Week 10 of this term. Teachers will also be emailing an overview of what the students have been learning about in each curriculum area for Terms 1 and 2. Report cards will look slightly different from now on with comments on Academic strengths and weaknesses as well as comments about behaviour and work ethics now being given at the end of the report card. As always parents are provided an opportunity to meet with the class teacher if they so desire to discuss in more detail their child’s progress and reports. These changes have also been documented in the newsletter each fortnight and flagged at recent P&C meetings. If you wish to know more, our HOC Mrs Mathiesen, is more than happy to relay further information.
It is also at this time, that I am reminded of our School Motto, “Cultivating Knowledge” as well as our School vision “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
We strongly believe here at Dayboro school that our students should be engaged in the “richness” of learning and we strive to provide a diverse and challenging range of learning experiences that extend and encourage student creativity. We aim to provide a wide range of ways in which our students can present their knowledge and understandings and encourage all our students to have- a- go, take risks and do their best! Our ethos has always been around educating the “whole” child for the world of the future and to give them the skills and knowledge they will need to be happy, curious and engaged learners who will thrive in a variety of settings.
BEHAVIOUR - OUR RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN
Our school has a comprehensive School Code of Behaviour with a published Code of Conduct that outlines expectations and processes followed to encourage positive relationships and ensure students perform to their potential. Dayboro State School’s Code of Conduct can be found on the school website or accessed from the Office.
To keep things simple our code focuses on five values that encompass the behaviours that we want to see in our children.
Simply called the 5 B’s they are:
Be RESPECTFUL Of yourself, others and property
Be RESPONSIBLE Be safe and aware
Be POSITIVE Be kind, helpful and cheerful
Be PROUD Take pride in yourself, your work and your school
Be TOLERANT Be understanding of others’ ideas beliefs and feelings
We also have a Kindness Award and a weekly Principal’s Award. Once a term, in Week 10, we hold a Principal’s Morning Tea where all the Principal award recipients are invited. A Sheriff’s award is also presented once a term to students who demonstrate outstanding citizenship and are drawn from all the students who receive a Golden Gotcha throughout the term. This is also drawn in Week 10 of each term.
A REMINDER ABOUT MOBILE PHONES
Mobile phones and smart watches are considered a valuable item and are therefore not to be brought to school by students. The risk of damage, inappropriate use or loss is extremely high.
If, due to special circumstances, parents require a mobile phone to be carried by a child, the phone must be given to the child’s class teacher for the duration of the day.
We strongly encourage students to leave all toys at home. Treasured items may go missing, be lost, or sadly, taken. If something of value is brought to school (for Show and Tell for example) the student should hand it to the teacher for safe keeping. Any items brought to school should be clearly named for safe return to the owner if lost or misplaced.
LOST PROPERTY
Please ensure all clothing and property are clearly labelled with student’s names. At this time of year, especially, we are finding many jumpers being handed into the office as children warm up throughout the day and take their jumpers off but leave them behind somewhere. If they are named we can return them promptly to their owners. (which we do regularly) Having names on items means very little goes missing and items can be returned.
CSA Supervision Times
A reminder that we do not have staff on before school supervision until 8:15am each morning. Children should not be arriving at school before this time, unless they have before school commitments such as Choir or Band. We have seen an increase in the number of children arriving at school before this time, some even before 8am. We have an excellent before/after school service if needed. Helping Hands provide early morning supervision to students and walks them to the CSA every morning around 8:30am.
Thank you Mrs Ryan!
Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
