Chappy Week 2022

(May 22 – 29)

Hi everyone, this week I thought I would share a bit about what I do in the day to day at Dayboro State School.

This year I started running ‘Chappy’s Playtime Activities’. Most lunch breaks you will find me doing a range of activities with the students, from chalk drawing, playing card games (UNO & Spot It are the favourites of the students at the moment!), handball competitions, running (and coaching) cricket games on the oval, basketball games (go team ‘Hats’!), Year 1 vs Year 2 soccer games and so on. In Term 1 we had ‘Chappy’s Dance Party’ in the hall, with students dancing along to some Just Dance videos. On the last day of term, we were able to put on a free of charge Chappy’s Cheeseburger Day thanks to our chaplaincy sponsors. My local chaplaincy committee did a great job helping to organise and run this. I have regular weekly visits to help out in classrooms around the school. I love my ‘Fun Friday’s’ in 1M and reading to the preppies. Behind the scenes, I was able to provide food hampers and new uniforms to families affected by the floods in Dayboro. I meet with certain students weekly to provide some extra emotional support. My office is located in the Hive (Learning Support Room), so I get to see the wonderful students who visit there each week and am available to assist Mrs Hammond and Mrs T if things are particularly busy.

In the Easter holiday break I worked at a Scripture Union Day camp (the Moreton Bay Super Sports Camp). This was a great 3 days of games and trying new sports. A couple of children from Dayboro State School also came along with me. They had a great time having fun and making new friends.

This term I have started working through the ‘Big Life Journal’ with some students. These are journals designed by psychologists to help improve wellbeing by building self-esteem and resilience in young people. The students work with me one on one and get to keep their journal once completed. It is going great!

I am really enjoying being the chaplain here at Dayboro State School. I am grateful to be able to get to know and support the students, parents and staff in whatever way I can.

If you ever have any questions or need assistance with anything, please don’t hesitate to send me an e-mail at rachael.woodrow@suchaplaincy.org.au. That is what I am here for ?

Colouring in Competition

Next week I am running a Chappy Week colouring in competition. There is a family pass to Event Cinemas on offer for one winner from each year level (a big thank you to Sergeant Ken and the DSF for sponsoring this awesome prize!)

Each child will be given a colouring in picture on Monday and need to return it to their teacher by Friday 27 May. Good luck!
